About the Blum Family  |  About the Year 1901

History of General Store

About the building itself: Originally located on Wolf Street in Dallas, this General Store was built and operated by Albert F. Mueller, a Jewish immigrant from Germany. This one-room, frame building with a flat roof and squared off facade is typical of many store buildings in the region at the turn of the century.

"Living" History of Blum Brothers General Store

The Blum Brothers General Store is located on Main Street. Simon Blum moved from Galveston in 1892 to open this branch of the family business in Dallas. After the Great Galveston Storm in September 1900, Simon's brother Mordecai and his family moved to Dallas. Mordecai has joined his brother Simon as a partner in the store.

The store is a popular gathering spot for the community and serves as a grocery, dry goods, hardware, and notions outlet.
