Have you ever wondered what life was like in early Dallas?

Your students become Dallas History Detectives when they step back in time and explore the many hands-on areas and historic homes. Each student is given a grade specific History Hunt, based on a scavenger hunt theme, filled with questions about the Village. Click here for an example of a History Hunt. All programs are TEKS-aligned.

Become actively engaged in history by hearing, seeing, touching and even smelling 19th century life. Grade-specific History Hunts with answers found throughout the Village will stimulate conversations. Your students’ experience is enhanced during “Living History” seasons when we highlight a historical idea or event. Discussions with costumed characters and exhibit information inside several buildings reveal how Dallas’ rich story has influenced and connected us to how we live today.

Fall 2009 and Spring 2010 "Living History"

Green Fields, Black Smoke: Nature & Progress When Dallas was Young

During “Living History Seasons,” characters dressed in period clothing reveal the environmental truths of 1888 Dallas. Through special exhibits and programming, we investigate if people really were “greener” in the nineteenth century and how life on the family farm was affected by the growth of industry. (This program was made possible in part with a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.)
