Have you ever wondered what
life was like in early Dallas? Take a step back in time as students become
Dallas History Detectives to explore the mysteries and wonders of life in early
Dallas. Using a grade specific History Hunt (based on a scavenger hunt theme)
students will discover the Village.
If your visit is during our "Living History" seasons (October 1 - December 30
and March 1 - June 30), you may meet characters dressed in period costumes such
as Mrs. Blum in her Jewish home, Mrs. de Léon in the Depot’s Section House, the
wagon master working with Nip and Tuck (our Mammoth Jack donkeys), Mr. Kennedy
at the Farmstead or even one of the Schmidt brothers on Main Street.
Upon arrival at the museum, please have one person from your school check in at
the Ticket Office. After your brief orientation, you will be given your
supplies to complete your experience. Students will work in pairs
to find the answers for their History Hunt. For example, if you booked 50
students then you will be given 25 sets of questions. Your students will be
supplied with pencils for answering the questions.
Teachers and chaperones/parents will be given a map of the grounds for touring.
You may self-tour the museum at your own pace. The History Hunts are designed
to take at least one hour to complete. Please note that we will give you a set
of answers to all of the History Hunt questions in your packet when you arrive.
If you have difficulty finding an answer to a question while on your
tour, please feel free to ask any of the museum staff.
For your convenience, pre-visit and post-visit materials are posted on our
website. If you are unable to download
them, please contact the Reservations Coordinator at 214-413-3674 or via
email and
we will be happy to fax the materials to you.
