Adopt a Heritage Breed Animal

Do you have a favorite animal at Dallas Heritage Village?
Looking for that perfect gift for "Mr./Ms. Hard to Shop for?"
Did someone get your goat and you want to give it back?

Why not give the gift of a year long adoption of one of Dallas Heritage Village's heritage-breed animals?

"Farmstead Friends" is a special care and support program for the heritage breed animals at Dallas Heritage Village. By adopting an animal you can share in the success of Dallas Heritage Village’s animal program.

When you become a "Farmstead Friend" you will receive:

  • A personalized adoption certificate
  • A biography of your animal
  • A "Farmstead Friend" button

Adopt Nip or Tuck - $80 each per year or $150 for the pair!

Nip and Tuck are a matched pair of Mammoth Jack Stock Donkeys. Mammoth Jack Stock are the second largest and second rarest breed of donkey in the world. This breed was developed in the late 1700’s.

Nip has a white blaze on his forehead and is slighter in build than his partner Tuck. Nip is the obstinate one of the pair and it sometimes takes a while to convince him to try new things.

Tuck is stockier in build than his partner Nip and is also not as stubborn.

Did you know that Mammoth Jack Stock Donkeys can have ears 13 inches long or longer?!

Adopt Lucy - $50 per year

Lucy is a 5-year old Durham dairy cow.  Durhams are one of the oldest recognized breeds in the world.  The breed developed in England in the 1600's.  The first Durhams were imported into the United States in 1783 and had spread west of the Mississippi by 1839

Adopt a Sheep - $35 each per year

Our flock is currently composed of 4 adult sheep (Baaab, Mom, Rachel and Ethel). Our sheep are a hardy fine wool breed that will produce lots of wool for the 1860s Living Farmstead.

Adopt our Chickens- $15 per flock per year. Cheep, cheep!

Dominiques are the oldest poultry breed developed in the United States.

Please note - All adopted animals remain in the care and custody of Dallas Heritage Village, and no ownership rights are conferred.  Due to their popularity, some animals may be subject to concurrent adoptions.
