Digital Collections Intern
Job Description: Dallas Heritage Village has begun the process of digitizing the museum’s
collection of historic artifacts and archival items. This involves scanning photos, documents and postcards
and taking digital photographs of three-dimensional artifacts. Currently, about 20% of our 24,000 artifacts
have been digitized. Some of our artifacts are currently available online via the Portal to Texas History,
hosted by the University of North Texas.
Job Duties:
- Continue photography and scanning of collection according to museum standards.
- Update records with photos in PastPerfect, DHV’s collection management software.
- Receive training from UNT on how to access the Portal and upload material.
- Learn to describe the artifacts according to the standards of the Portal, to optimize user searches.
- Identify artifacts suitable for addition to our Portal offerings and add them.
Requirements:The ideal candidate will be a motivated, self-starter who has an interest in history
and strong research and writing skills. Attention to detail is also a key characteristic. Must have some
experience with photography, and familiarity with basic scanning practices. Perfect for someone interested
in museum studies, history, or library studies. The candidate must also be an undergraduate, returning to
school full time in the fall of 2010.
The Digital Collections Intern position is available summer 2010 (June - August). Start date is flexible,
but the internship is for eight consecutive weeks, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Salary is $2,750 for the summer.
