Outreach Program Overview

Bring a one-of-a-kind history experience to your classroom or multi-purpose room with a visit by a Dallas Heritage Village costumed character. Our fun and interactive programs are the perfect complement before or after a visit to the museum. Each theme is a 45-minute session for up to 30 students, all TEKS-aligned.

Topic Options

Barnyard Buddies (PreK to 2nd Grade)

Choose one of four different programs and we'll bring history to your class.

TEXAS LEGENDS
Texas is full of stories and tall tales. We’ll sing a few Texas songs, read Pecos Bill by Steven Kellogg and selections from Texas Mother Goose. Wrap up your Texas adventure by making your own piece of rope and decorating a bandana.

TRAIN TRACKS
Get ready to climb aboard! We’ll play a few train games, read I’m Taking a Trip on My Train by Shirley Neitzel and Full Steam Ahead by Faye Gibbons. We'll even make a train whistle.

SHEEP SHENANIGANS
What would it be like to be a sheep? Touch real wool, read Red Berry Wool by Robyn Eversole and Brave Charlotte! by Ann Stohner, and make your own sheep. We’ll even try our hand at some weaving.

MUSIC, MUSIC EVERYWHERE
It’s a toe-tapping good time! We’ll sing a song or two, read When Uncle Took the Fiddle by Libba Moore Gray and Westward Ho, Carlotta! by Candace Fleming, and make a musical instrument. We might even play a game or two of musical chairs.
