Registration
Do I have to register in advance? When is the deadline for registration?
We strongly encourage Cub and Boy Scouts to register and pay for Civil War on the Home Front in advance. This helps us plan activities for the day. The deadline for 2007 is Wednesday, November 7. You can register online, through mail, or by phone.
Tickets are available at the gate, but special event admission rates will apply ($9/adults, $6/kids) and any remaining patches will be sold on a first-come, first served basis.
If I'm not a Scout, can I still order tickets in advance at the reduced rate?
Absolutely! The $5 rate is for all advance purchases. Online ticket sales begin on October 2.
How can I pay the registration fees?
You can pay in advance with a check, Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
What if some of my boys can’t make it after I’ve already paid their registration?
There are no refunds after the deadline of November 7, so please be sure to get an accurate count.
What if additional people end up coming that are not pre-registered?
You can pay for additional people at the gate, but special event admission rates will apply ($9/adult and $6/child). Also, we cannot guarantee that we will have enough patches.
Can I purchase the Scout Day patches on-site?
You are more than welcome to purchase the Scout Day patches on-site, but they are available on a first come, first served basis.
Logistics
Where is Dallas Heritage Village?
Dallas Heritage Village is located just south of downtown Dallas, near Farmer's Market. A map and more specific directions can be found here. Special event parking directions do not apply for this event.
Where do I park?
Parking is free and directly across from the Village. There will be staff to direct you to a spot.
Can we bring a picnic lunch?
Absolutely! We no longer have a restaurant on site, though you can purchase snacks and beverages at our museum store. There will be picnic space available in Nancy’s Garden, on the eastern edge of the museum. We do not have space to store your lunches.
What else should we bring?
Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and bottled water for your troop. Feel free to bring your camera, but remember that photos can only be taken outside. Interior photos are not permitted in order to preserve our artifacts. Don’t forget to bring money for our museum store!
What will the day be like?
There will be on-going activities throughout the day, as well as a few scheduled events. The on-going activities include drilling and demonstration by Civil War re-enactors, hands-on activities for the boys, visiting with our historic interpreters, and seeing our many restored, museum buildings. Many badge requirements can be fulfilled during the course of the day. You will receive a program in your registration packet the morning of the event.
What if it rains?
As many of you know, Dallas Heritage Village is an outdoor museum. If it rains, the event will go on! Some activities will be moved indoors, but all visitors should dress for the weather.
What will the battle re-enactment be like?
At 2:00 pm, the Confederate and Union troops will stage a battle re-enactment on the museum grounds. The troops use black-powder weapons, meaning that while no bullets are used, the fire can still be dangerous. All museum guests will be instructed to stand and watch in designated areas. It is very important that everyone stays in those areas until the battle is finished.
