Do I have to pre-register?
We strongly encourage pre-registering!  It helps us as we plan and ensures that we have enough materials for everyone.  In addition, you must order any box lunches by the deadline.  There is no food service at the museum.

Is there some kind of schedule for the day?
Almost everything is self-guided and self-paced and will be going on throughout the day.  The event will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  There will probably be a few things that do not happen for that entire time.  But there will be plenty for you to do no matter when you arrive!  You will receive a more specific schedule the day of the event.

What do I do when I arrive at Old City Park?
When you arrive at Old City Park, simply check in at Guest Services.  You will receive a packet containing your tickets for the museum, maps, vouchers for your pre-ordered lunch, a program, and other related information.

The Program

What are some of the topics that will be covered by the theme Homes Across History?

Some questions that we will be asking and answering during this event are:

  • How have people created shelter in the past?

What are some of the differences between shelter on the frontier and shelter in an established community?

How do you create shelter when youre traveling?

What were some of the conveniences and inconveniences of homes in the past?

How do you turn shelter into a home?

What are some of the ways these questions will be asked and answered during the event?
Old City Park has eight historic homes in the village, providing a great opportunity for students to compare and contrast.  In addition, there will be several hands-on activities and opportunities to experience historic shelter.  Students will also have the opportunity to make a period craft to take home with them.
