Rebuilding Begins! At the beginning of August a pack of dogs attacked our flock at the 1860s Living Farmstead and we lost our sheep and chickens. The 1860's Living Farmstead is an important part of Old City Park's mission to preserve & teach history & we are rebuilding.
Work has begun to reinforce the fencing around the farm & the chicken yard. For additional security we are also acquiring a donkey. Donkeys make excellent companions & guards for sheep. Friends of OCP have been very generous & are donating a donkey, chickens & 2 Rambouillet ewes. Our plan is to acquire 4 more Rambouillets & a Milking Shorthorn cow.
Also, during the first week of October, Floppsy and Moppsy 2 registered Rambouillet ewes will arrive from Maryland. Rambouillets are a hardy fine wool breed of sheep that were present in the Dallas area in the late 1850s. On Saturday, October 12th, two bred Rambouillet ewes will arrive from Goldthwaite Texas to make their new home at OCP. Come to Pioneer Harvest on October 19th and help us choose the name of our fourth ewe!

For those who are new to Old City Park, we are Dallas' premier Living
History Museum.
Located just south of downtown Dallas, OCP is composed of 38 historic
structures & boasts
a working farm, a traditional Jewish household, elegant Victorian homes,
a school, a church
& turn of the century commercial buildings.
The 1860's Living Farmstead's mission is to accurately portray a small
wool producing Texas farm in the opening year of the Civil War.
