About Village Academy


Village Academy invites your child to step into the past. Classes are designed for children ages 4 to 11 and take approximately 2 hours. All classes begin at 2 p.m. Space is limited, so register early!

Dallas Heritage Village members receive a $2 discount on each registration. (Only one discount per membership.) Each family that signs up for 5 or more classes receives a $2 discount on each registration. (Only one discount per family.)

Registration begins January 14.

Spring 2008 Classes for Ages 9 to 11

Something’s Cooking Take a cooking class in Miller Cabin. Learn how early pioneers cooked on an open hearth and then share a meal with your classmates! Dates: Saturday, March 8 Sunday, March 30 Cost: $17 Class size: 3-6 students

Spring Fling! How did 19th century children spend their free time on a spring day? Learn games children played in the Victorian era like Croquet, hoops and marbles. Finish the afternoon with a special treat from Mrs. Blum. Dates: Thursday, March 13 Sunday, March 16 Cost: $12 Class size: 4-8 students

Swinging Saloon Get a special behind the scenes look at an old time saloon. Help Mr. Schmidt open for the day, serve root beer, and play some old time card games. Dates: Sunday, March 16 Sunday, March 30 Cost: $12 Class size: 4-8 students

The Sewing Circle All little girls knew how to sew in the 19th century. Learn some basic stitches and take a sewing kit home to practice on your own! Dates: Saturday, March 15 Tuesday, March 18 Cost: $25 Class size: 3-6 students

Knit Wits Spring is here, but you can still prepare for the cold months ahead in this class! Learn basic knitting techniques and take your new knitting needles home to practice on your own! Dates: Tuesday, March 11 Saturday, March 29 Cost: $25 Class Size: 3-6 students

Tejano Crafts Learn about traditional Tejano life and crafts from Mrs. de Léon in the Section House. Create a paper flower, practice some embroidery and help with everyday tasks. Dates: Friday, March 14 Wednesday, March 19 Cost: $12 Class Size: 4-8 students

Spring 2008 Classes for Ages 8 to 10

Nip and Tuck, Step Up! Spend an afternoon assisting Mrs. Clementine with her Mammoth Jack Donkeys, Nip and Tuck. Dates: Saturday, March 15 Wednesdy, March 19 Cost: $17 Class size: 3-6 students

Stock and Shop Learn what “going down town” was like in the late 19th century. Explore Main Street, help Mr. Schmidt stock the general store, make some deliveries and create your own advertisement to bring in business. Dates: Friday, March 14 Friday, March 21 Cost: $12 Class size: 4-8 students

Spring 2008 Classes for Ages 6 to 8

How Does your Garden Grow? Travel back in time to the days when you couldn’t go grocery shopping! Help plant crops at the 1861 Farmstead, then plant your own herb to take home. Dates: Tuesday, March 11 Friday, March 21 Cost: $12 Class size: 4-8 students

Mind Your Manners Enjoy a proper tea party with Mrs. Blum while learning about good manners of the past and today! Dates: Sunday, March 9 SOLD OUT! Thursday, March 20 SOLD OUT! Cost: $12 Class size: 4-8 students

1901 Tejano Life Learn about Tejano life in 1901. Help Mrs. de Léon take care of her chickens, get ready for lunch and create a traditional Tejano craft to take home. Dates: Wednesday, March 12 Saturday, March 29 Cost: $12 Class size: 4-8 students

Spring 2008 Classes for Ages 4 to 5

Fantastic Folk Art Learn about quilts, pottery and other kinds of folk art around the Village. Make a special folk art creation to take home! Dates: Sunday, March 9 Tuesday, March 18 Cost: $12 Class size: 5-10 students

All Aboard! Learn all about trains. Explore the depot, hear a fun train story and get ready for a trip across the country! Dates: Saturday, March 8 Thursday, March 20 Cost: $12 Class Size: 5-10 students

Reservation and Cancellation Policy

• Registration begins January 14. Payment (check, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express) is due the reservation is made. You must register at least 1 week in advance.
• All classes have a required minimum. The musuem will cancel classes if the minimum has not been reached one week prior to the class date. You will receive a full refund or you may transfer to another class if space is available.
• If you wish to cancel your reservation, you must do so no later than one week prior to the class start date. You will receive a full refund, less a $3 per registration handling fee. If you cancel within one week of the class, you will not receive a refund.
