How can I pay for my field trip?
We accept checks (payable to Dallas Heritage Village), MasterCard, Visa and
American Express as payment. Payment is due 2 weeks before your field trip date.
Payment at the gate will be accepted but you must call the Reservations Coordinator
and hold your field trip with a credit card. You may then pay at the gate with cash,
credit card, or check.

What if my number of students or chaperones change?
If your numbers change prior to your payment, adjust the invoice accordingly.
We do not provide refunds for absent students. If your numbers are larger than
expected, you can pay for the additional students or chaperones at the gate.

I need to cancel my tour. What do I do?
Any field trip can be cancelled with a full refund up to two weeks prior to
your scheduled visit. If you cancel less than two weeks of your visit, you
will not be refunded. You can reschedule or receive a credit towards future
field trips.

How many chaperones should we bring?
We require one adult for every ten students. However, there is no limit to
the number of chaperones you may bring.

Are Dallas Heritage Village’s field trips TEKS-aligned?
Yes! We are aligned with social studies and history objectives as well as math,
science and reading in most grade levels. Complete TEKS-objectives can be found
in the pre- and post-visit packets.

I’m part of a home schooling group. Can we book a field trip?
Absolutely! We offer the same student rates ($4) to home schooling groups as we
do for other school field trips. One adult per family is free, and any additional
adults are $5. Children 3 and under are free. We also offer an annual home school

Where exactly is Dallas Heritage Village?
Dallas Heritage Village is located off of I-30, just one block south of
Farmers Market. Click here for detailed directions.
Where do we park? How much does it cost?
Parking is free! We ask that buses park in the grassy lot directly across from
the Village. Chaperones can park in our Visitor’s Parking Lot. Overflow parking
is available in the grassy lot.

What time should we arrive?
We begin checking in school groups at 9:30 a.m. Please send one adult into
the Ticket Office to begin the process. Our staff will direct your students
to a location away from the main entrance, where we will orient your group.

What is a History Hunt?
History Hunts are grade specific, TEKS-aligned scavenger hunts, designed
to spark questions and conversations as you compare and contrast life then
and now. Our field trips are self-guided and self-paced.
Click here for an example of a History Hunt.

How much time should we allow at Dallas Heritage Village?
Most groups spend around three hours touring the Village, including time for lunch.

I really want a guided tour for my students. Can I schedule
one of those?
With 38 historic structures, we’ve discovered it’s best for students to be self-guided
and self-paced. At this time, we do not offer guided tours for school groups. However,
there are historic characters located throughout the Village and some buildings will
have volunteers giving tours.

Who are the people in costume?
As you tour the Village, you’ll meet staff in historic clothing. Their job
is to interact with your students as a “voice from the past.” They’ll act as if
they live in a specific moment in time. Your students will be given “Character
Chats” as part of their History Hunts to spark discussion about life then and now.

Where is the cook/blacksmith/potter/farmwife etc?
For those of you who have visited us before, you may remember certain characters
in certain locations. This year, we are establishing themes for exhibits and
characters within the Village. Different buildings will be staffed, but some old
favorites may not be staffed for this year’s particular theme. You’ll still meet
approximately the same number of characters—they’ll just have new stories to
share with you and your students!

Where do we eat lunch?
Picnic tables and plenty of green space are available in Nancy’s Garden.
In case of inclement weather, we will make every effort to find an alternate eating
location for your group. We do not have a place to store lunches.

The weather is supposed to be terrible the day of our field
trip! What do I do?
As an outdoor museum, we understand visiting us during inclement weather may
not be the best field trip experience. We are open rain or shine, but will be
happy to reschedule your group for another day. Simply call the Reservations
Coordinator at 214-413-3674 to make arrangements to re-book your tour. If you
choose to come, please make sure your students are dressed accordingly.

Can I bring a camera?
Cameras are welcome, but please no flash photography inside our buildings.
Can we get a ride with Nip and Tuck?
Nip and Tuck, our Mammoth Jack Donkeys, may be providing carriage rides
during your visit. Weather permitting, rides are 25¢ per rider and are available on a first-come,
first-served basis.
Do you have a Museum Store?
Our Museum Store is now located in the Ticket Office. Space is limited inside,
so we may ask your group to wait outside until there’s room. We have items at
many price levels. You can also pre-order goodie bags for your students, which
can be picked up at your convenience. Online order form coming soon.
