Program Description
What was it like to move to Texas in a covered wagon? Compare the journey
to moving today. What would you take and what would you leave
behind? Unpack a trunk filled with hands-on, reproduction objects
representing the kinds of things people took West with them. Experience
textures, smells, and objects from the pioneer era.
Students will
-
Learn how North Texas was settled.
-
Evaluate the items necessary to build a home and community.
-
Compare and contrast travel today with travel 150 years ago.

Program Description
How did trains change life in Texas? Compare and contrast life in a Texas
town before and after the railroad. Children will learn about the changes
the railroad brought, including technology, the economy and urban growth.
There will be plenty of interactive, hands-on opportunities, including a guided
scavenger hunt through the 1895 Montgomery Ward catalog.
Students will

Dallas.

sources.

Program Description
Be a history detective! How were artifacts used in the past? What can
we learn about history through objects? Search for clues in artifacts
brought to your classroom. Students will have the opportunity to discover
the secret of the artifact and share their findings with their classmates.
Students will
-
Explore the technology of the past.
-
Play the role of a historian by observing and analyzing artifacts and other
primary sources in order to discover their use.
