Curatorial Care Assistant/Preparator
Job Description: The Curatorial Care Assistant/Preparator works with the Curator of Exhibits and Collections
and the Registrar to maintain the artifacts in the permanent collection and to install exhibits in the living history village.
Caring for the collection includes cleaning in exhibit buildings and curatorial storage areas, according to established
practices of artifact care. May also assist Registrar with inventory and digitization of artifacts, and may include minor
conservation work. Will conduct and maintain records of exhibit and storage area environmental conditions, pests, and emergency
supplies.
Duties also include serving as preparator to assist with regularly changing exhibits and seasonal themes. This work may include
the construction of exhibit supports or props, transportation and installation of artifacts and materials throughout the 13-acre
museum site, and production of signage.
Requirements: The ideal candidate should be energetic and responsible, with an eye for detail. Some knowledge of
exhibits and collections preferred, but graduate students pursuing a museum career are encouraged to apply. Basic computer
skills are necessary, and graphics skills a plus. This position requires the ability to work on ladders as needed, to lift
over 50 pounds, and to assist in the moving of large artifacts such as furniture.
The Curatorial Care Assistant/Preparator is a part-time, hourly position, working 20 hours per week.
