Interactive Adult Classes


Dallas Heritage Village is excited to offer interactive adult classes in Dallas' premier living history museum. Members receive a $5 discount to each class. Visit the membership page and find out how to become a member and enjoy these benefits. Call Melissa Prycer at 214-413-3671 to reserve your space in a class. Payment is due at time of booking. Classes are held rain or shine at the village which is located at 1515 Harwood, Dallas, TX 75215.



We will hold these class as often as interest demands. The class may be held with as few as 3 participants and no more than 6.

Jewish Cooking Traditions


Baking Bread at the Turn of the 19th Century

Details:
Explore bread making in the Jewish Tradition of the 19th century, how bread and its preparation evolved and the folk traditions surrounding it. Participants prepare and bake their own challah using period recipes and cooking techniques on a cast iron wood burning stove. While bread is rising participants will churn butter to enjoy with their bread. A hand out and bibliography are provided, and students take home both bread and butter. Due to the heat of the stove and our Texas weather, this class is offered seasonally, September thru March. Class is held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Ages 12 and older.

Haute Cuisine of the Open Hearth Era


Foodways of the Mid-19th Century South

Details:
Explore and discuss what foods were common in the American South , what period cookbooks are available and a wide range of open hearth cooking techniques. Participants prepare a full meal using period recipes and historic techniques in the 1861 open-hearth log kitchen facility. A hand out and bibliography are provided. Ages 16 and older only.
